Instructions on viewing

and downloading documents

DISCLAIMER

The following information assumes basic computer knowledge.  Some of the instructions, below, may not apply to your computer.  Neither the Paul Sawyier Public Library nor the Friends are responsible for the operation of your computer.  Please, do not contact the Library or the Friends if you have problems with your computer.

  • Most of the documents in the Newsletters page are in "PDF" format, which requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader to be installed on your computer. Most modern computers already have Reader installed. If you left-click a "PDF" link and the Reader appears, then it is correctly installed on your computer.  If an error occurs, or if you experience problems with your current version of the Reader, then you may need to download an updated version of the Reader by clicking the above link and following the instructions on that website (note: Acrobat Reader versions for older computers and operating systems may not be available).

  • Some documents in the Newsletters page are in "DOC" format, which requires Microsoft Word  (or similar software) to be installed on your computer.  Most modern computers already have MS-Word installed.  If you left-click a "DOC" link and MS-Word (or similar software) appears, then it is installed on your computer. If an error occurs or if you experience problems with your current version of MS-Word (or similar software), then you may need to upgrade your MS-Word (or similar software) (note: MS-Word (or similar software) versions for older computers and operating systems may not be available).

  • Some documents in the Newsletters page are "ZIP" files, each of which contains more than one document and requires a "ZIP" program to be installed on your computer.  Most modern computers already have a "ZIP" program installed.  If you left-click a "ZIP" link and the "ZIP" program appears, then it is installed on your computer. The "ZIP" program should display a number of files within the "ZIP" file (i.e., they should be "PDF" and/or "DOC" documents). Use your "ZIP" program to "extract" those files to your computer, then double-left-click each "extracted" to view them (n.b., some "ZIP" programs let you view the files individually or in groups by selecting the desired file(s), then double-left-clicking on them). If an error occurs or if you experience problems with your current version of "ZIP", then you may need to download an upgraded version of your "ZIP" software (note: There are many different makes of "ZIP" programs, many of which are available for free via the internet; use your favorite web search engine to find them; "ZIP" versions for older computers and operating systems may not be available).

  • You may download (i.e., save to your computer) any document from the Friends (and any other) webpages by right-clicking the appropriate link, and then selecting "Save Page As ..." or similar. After saving the document to your computer, double-left-click that file to activate it.
