Friends of the Paul Sawyier Public Library Newsletter
SPRING 2009 Volume 7, Issue 1 Frankfort, KY
President’s Letter
Hello, Friends! It’s good to know we now
number over 400 active members! As we all need
to be reminded from time to time, Friends’ goal is
to enhance our library’s services, and to present it
front and center to our community. This year has
been a busy one so far, and promises to be even
busier as our activities and projects take shape. To
get an idea of where we’ve been and where we’re
going, try this for starters:
January, we were guests of the Frankfort Optimist
Club, to let them know about Friends; and we had
a booth at the Local Day Care “Kick-off” at the
Library.
February saw us hold a great Winter Book Sale,
and our Board voted to fully fund the Library’s
Summer Reading Program for 2009.
March 18 was a special day for us, when we honored
both store and book sale volunteers - 55 in all
- with a catered luncheon.
April was an important month for us, with National
Library Week April 12-18 - no better time to
show appreciation to our faithful library staff, with
“goodies” and a small gift to each on April 14.
Beyond all this, our Board is lining up projects that
will extend into 2010. But the big event coming
up right away is our giant Summer Book Sale! We
feature it in a separate article in the Newsletter.
Remember that all we do and all funds we earn go
to support our great library!
— Cloyd Stratton
Friends Working in Partnership with Two Great Organizations
Friends have noticed all the good work that Downtown
Frankfort Inc. (DFI) has been doing to help get the word out
about all the great activities that are taking place downtown—
including programs and services at our Library. To
support DFI in its efforts to preserve and revitalize our downtown
area, the Friends recently became a member of DFI.
And the Friends continue to partner with the Kentucky Book
Fair. As we have done for several years, the Friends recently
purchased for a nominal fee books remaining from the Kentucky
Book Fair to sell in the Lilian Lindsey Bookstore.
These books move very quickly off the shelves and help
boost our sales each year. We still have a good selection of
Kentucky Book Fair books remaining and invite you to visit
the bookstore soon. We very much appreciate the Kentucky
Book Fair making these books available to us!

devoted to the summer reading brochure.
Let’s help promote it! Tell your friends and
family about this wonderful event!
Giant Summer Book Sale
Here we go again, with another exciting, eventful book sale,
to be held in our library’s Community Room, June 4-6!
Hours:
Thursday 4:00p - 7:00p with Friends members only admitted
(memberships will be sold at the door)
Friday 10:00a - 5:00p
Saturday 10:00a - 2:00p “Bag and Box Day”
(fill your grocery bag with books for $2.00, including tax,
or your box for $5.00, including tax)
Hope Hager, a very active member of Friends,
has taken charge of our upcoming book sale.
She takes the reins from Cloyd Stratton,
who has led book sale events for almost two years.
Hope plans to build on past success,
and take us to new heights,
as she even now prepares for the big June sale.
We hope to see you there!
